Week 6: That's Why They Play'em

It was a good week for Michigan fans, but not so good for prognosticators. For most of us, it's a welcomed tension (as long as Rich can get his players to hold on to the ball before the season's over). But in addition to conceiving a Wolverine comeback after a 19-0 halftime deficit, who could have predicted some of the madness we saw on Saturday? Who could have guessed the Trojans wouldn't be able to tackle a 5' 6", 180-pound freshman? Who would have thought the Dawgs would give up 31 points in the first half at home (in the black jerseys no less!)? How could anyone know that the Gators would lose to Ole Miss because of a blocked PAT and Tebow's failure to get one yard? Where in the world did Navy come from? And who in their right mind would have thought the Tarheels would be able to go into Miami and pull out a win with their third-string quarterback and only 35 total rushing yards? That's just college football for you.

Well, on to the standings after week 5. Nate remains on top for the third week in a row, but Alex (like the Wonders' hit song) continues to climb the charts. Derek, the Doctor and Grant are all tied for fourth. And the Rev claws his way back out of the basement.

Can someone please explain why Missouri is favored by 9.5 against Nebraska. Is that for the whole game or per quarter? Memorial Stadium no longer has an affect on games, Nebraska looks decent at best, and Missouri just took punters off the two-deep. I think the line should be 20-something, and I'm not just being a Lou Holtz about this.

You know this need for sleep is really annoying. I wanted to stay up to watch the end of OSU/Utah (and to see the end of the Cub-drubbing) but I couldn't...I needed sleep. Too bad, I missed a dandy.

All you Michigan fans, misery (ooh, that's too close to Missouri) loves company, so here I am. At least we both have the future to look forward to instead of lame duck coaches. I'm predicting a Husker coming out party in 2010. See you all in the BCS? And not with Sun Belt officials :-)
