Before you go and say, "Well at least we only had 2 turnovers this week," just remember that the Wolverines put the ball on the ground at least 5 times on Saturday. We were just lucky that someone wearing blue covered 3 of them. And those 2 we lost turned out to be pretty critical (especially when we couldn't hold the opposition to field goals this week).
Ironically, the offense actually had a decent outing this week. Threet was only slightly over 50%, but he had some nice completions down the field and had one or two good runs. McGuffie continues to be the only sure-handed Wolverine and will likely develop into a pretty good running back.
While the offense also had its problems (like when it came to converting 3rd downs, pass protection and substituting correctly), a lot of the blame falls on the defense this week. Perhaps they're just not used to defending a lead yet. But I don't see how you can respond to your offense driving 10 plays for 61 yards and eating 4:32 of clock by giving up 46 yards on the first play from scrimmage. After that, it just all went downhill. I mean, 57 and 77 yard touchdowns?! Are you kidding me? Playoffs?! And not one take-away. Even Eastern Illinois and Louisiana-Lafayette were able to force turnovers against the Illini. This just wasn't Michigan defense.
Standings:
If my recent trend continues, I'll be in the basement before long. As it stands now. Nate's still on top and Alex behind him. Derek and the Doctor move up together tied for third. The Rev, with a very good week, moves up into a 3-way tie for fourth with Grant and myself. While Clyde doesn't lose any ground on most of the pack, but doesn't gain much ground either.

Kenny, I am against picking versus the spread for two reasons. One, I am ahead...why mess with that? Two, and this is the real one, is that spreads lead to what my friend SVP calls "bad beats". A spread is 10 points, and in a neck and neck game, one team gets a cheap late TD and covers the spread, even though they didn't really play like a spread-covering team. Or a spread is 20, and a team is just manhandling someone, but then they put in the schleps and give up a few cheapies and don't cover. I consider it a mess.
However, if you all vote me down, I'll just keep whuppin' ya anyhow!!!
Humbly yours.
For Nate's second reason, I vote against. Also, as a current member of the lower echelon, I like getting a few high confidence picks to feel better. There are enough games in a weekend to keep things interesting, plus I don't want to start missing picks I get right.
I did not watch much Michigan...my eyes were riveted to a fantastic FSU-Miami game (at least in the seconc half) and Brewer baseball. But it looked like the game was at least close for a while, whereas Nebraska got trounced from the third play.
There are some snakes in the grass this week, but I'm not sure I have the guts to pull any triggers. I've been burned so far, but we'll see.
